Veteran communist cde Nikandros Kepesis passed away

The veteran communist cde Nikandros Kepesis passed away today at 7:00 in the morning at “Evaggelistria” Hospital in Kypseli, where he hospitalized for a long time.

Nikandros Kepesis took part in the 1940-41 war, as a reserve second lieutenant. He was one of the first to join the struggle against the conquerors. He became captain of the 6th independent Constitution of Piraeus of the Greek Liberation Army (ELAS). He became a member of OKNE (as a student) in 1930 and in 1936 a member of the KKE. In 1944 he became a member of the Secretariat of the Party Organisation of Piraeus and in 1946 second Secretary of the Party Organisation of Athens. In 1950 while in prison, was elected member of the Central Committee of KKE from the 3rd State Conference. HE reelected in all conferences up to the 11th Congress. For his patriotic and partisan activities he was chased hard. He spent 22 years in prisons and concentration camps. For his contribution against occupation and in particular his contribution to the battles of 12-13 October 1944, he was honored with Party praise and party and became a Lieutenant of PEEA. He was a member of the Greek parliament with KKE in the past.

His funeral is tomorrow, Thursday, at Zografou Cemetery at 11 am.
