Greek unions call general strike September 26
Greece's two main unions GSEE (the General Confederation of Greek Workers) - ADEDY (the Civil Servants' Confederation) have called a 24-hour general strike September 26 to protest government plans to pass new austerity measures including spending cuts, tax increase and state-asset sales. Rescue creditors are demanding that Greece's conservative-led government slashes a further €11.5 billion in budget costs over the next two years — resulting in a new round of wage and pension cuts.
