We are sorry to inform you about the death of our Comrade Frede Klitgård, hero of the national resistance, former chairman of the largest organizations of veterans from the Danish resistance movement and former chairman of the People’s Movement Against Nazism. He died on June 5th 2015, 92 years old. To the end he was an active member of our Party and the editor of the antifascist magazine Håndslag. A book in Danish containing many of his writings for the magazine during more than 20 years was finished before his death and will be published in August.
Frede (born 1923) survived a sentence in 1943 of life long imprisonment in the Nazi German prison Dreibergen. He became a leader of the communist youth league after the war and later a journalist of the party newspaper, stationed in Moscow 1953-57, where he covered the notorious 20th congress. He left the Danish party in 1962, taking the side of China and Albania during the Great Polemic, and was one of the founders of the new Marxist-Leninist movement. He was a leading figure in the organizations of the veterans of the resistance, always defending its ideals and achievements against all reactionary attacks. He was a member of the central committee of DKP/ML, the predecessor of APK, and was expelled from the party with the former chairman Klaus Riis and Dorte Grenaa in 1997, following a revisionist coup, and he was one of the founders of the Workers’ Communist Party APK in 2000.
His death has been commented in many obituaries also in the bourgeois press, radio and television and in the socials media, many hundreds hailing him as a heroic fighter.

Danish elections ends 10 years rule of the right - installing a coalition government led by Social Democrats

Ten years rule of warmongering, racist and reactionary policies has been rejected, paving the way for another neoliberal government led by social democrat Helle Thorning Schmidt, the first woman to become prime minister

This so called center-right VK-government was for almost 8 years led by the international war criminal Anders Fogh Rasmussen, presently general secretary in NATO, and for the last two years by Lars Løkke Rasmussen It has all along been supported by the extreme right party Dansk Folkeparti (Danish People’s Party- O), that has set an anti-immigrant, racist and islamophobic agenda, that has made Denmark infamous as a front runner for reactionary politics.
For the past decade Denmark has pursued a so-called ‘activist foreign policy’ – which basically means being in the front rows of the imperialist wars, initiated by the US and NATO: Afghanistan, Iraq and now also bombing Libya.
The neoliberal economic policies of tax reductions for the rich and the monopolies and social cutbacks for the rest, boosting an artificial boom of the housing market, that greatly increased the indebtedness, has caused a severe and prolonged economic crises since 2008. Since 2008 tens of thousands of industrial work places have been closed down or moved abroad.
The crises policy of the VK-government has been massive economic injections for the speculative banking sector (four ‘bank packages’ since 2008, the last one less than two months ago), combined with a great number of social cutbacks and austerity measures. This includes increasing pension age and reducing the period of unemployment support to two years from four.
By September 2011 the Danes have had enough of the racist and warmongering polices and the capitalist crises policy of making the poor pay. They rejected new neoliberal reforms such as a new retirement reform, that would mean a progressive increase in working years, so that the ypung generation today will be expected to work until they are well past 70 years old!
The crisis in Denmark is very deep, and the transition of government power was also facilitated by the fact, that the Social Democrats several times before have been called to be in charge in times of crisis by the ruling bourgeoisie. This should guarantee the active cooperation of the trade unions and prevent serious mass mobilizations of the workers and youth.
There are 8 parties in the Danish parliament, four of them constituting the so called ‘Blue Bloc’, led by Fogh and Løkke Rasmussen, four others making up the ‘Red bloc’, with the social democrats (S) led by Helle Thorning Schmidt as the biggest. The ‘Red bloc’ includes two other social democratic, reformist parties – The People’s Socialist Party (SF) and the Unity List, originally an alliance of left wing socialists, soviet revisionists, Trotskyites and Maoists, now a more or les unified parliamentary party.
Right now negotiations of a platform for the new government of Thorning Schmidt are taking place. Besides the close alliance of S & SF the next government will presumably include Det Radikale Venstre (Danish Social Liberal Party), while the left Unity List will play the role as parliamentary support for the government – and thus be termed ‘a center-left’ coalition.

The core of the new government – the Social Democrats and Socialist People’s Party - also suffered defeat in the elections. With 24,8 % of the votes the Social Democrats had the worst electoral results since 1906. Adding the votes of the partner party they claim 34 % of all votes.
The voters did not subscribe to the ‘Fair solution’ crises plan of the two parties, that a.o. envisaged an increase of the working time with one hour a week, - ’12 minutes a day’ – from 37 to 38 hours. 
The Social Liberal Party with 9,5 % almost doubled their number of representatives, while the Unity List with tripled from 4 to 12 with 6,7 % of the votes.

The Danish press has been stressing the fact that three of the party leaders of the ‘Red Bloc’ are women as a factor in the electoral victory.
The Thorning-Schmidt government will undoubtedly pursue a neoliberal crisis policy, as demanded by the European Union and the Europact – in spite of illusions created by the Unity List and other left forces, that the change of government will been a totally new course in favour of the workers.
Thus the new government will not roll back the ‘reforms’ of the last ten years, including the immigration laws, terror laws and the participation in colonial wars.
Most likely the new retirement ‘reform’ will be decided by the parliament and carried out by the Thorning-Schmidt government. The increase of work hours may be dropped, as suggested by the new prime minister, stating: “The working people should not be forced to pay for the crisis twice”.
The fact is that the workers have already paid twice, and more, while the rich have grown richer.
Thor Workers’ Communist Party APK called for ‘voting blank’ at the elections, as a vote for any of the parties would be a vote for a neoliberal bloc.
The participation in the elections was quite massive – 87,7 %. Almost one percent voted blank.
APK now appeals to progressive trade unions, movements and organsations to start from Day One to mobilize against any implementation of neoliberal policies at the expense of the workers and the majority of people.

APK: 12 Demands to a New Government

1. Stop the wars NOW! Welfare to ALL!
2. Jobs to the unemployed, places for interns/trainees/apprentices without places! Start environmentally friendly work: climate friendly energy, renovation of schools, homes, roads, sewerage etc. Places for trainees/interns/apprentices to all – now!
3. The working time must go down, not up! Scrap the lies about shortage of labour power and burden of old people! (2) Right to unemployment benefits in minimum four years – with right to education! Defend the real wage!
4. Right to a life after work! Hands off the “afterwage,” (3) retirement age, and pensions! Restore ”afterwage” from 60 years, state pension from 65 years! Full regulation and equality on transfer payments!
5. Free education to all, equal rights! Drop the reductions of the state educational grants, (4) educational grants to live on! Drop the cuts in education! Abolish users fees! Housing, that can be paid! No to youth unemployment!
6. More hands to welfare, not fewer! Stop the undermining of the public sector! Equal pay now! No privatization of health, the social sector, and public administration! Equal access to medical treatment! A well functioning eldercare! Better conditions for the children families! Stop the cuts on the weakest of the society!
7. Love and solidarity know no borders! No to discrimination, xenophobia and racism. No “point systems” (5) or “24-28-years rules”! (6) Abolish “starthelp” (7) and unpayable fees! Asylum seekers out of the [asylum] centres!
8. Stop the criminalization of political, social and labour struggles. Abolish the terror-laws, (8) the “lout package” (9) and other special laws that have undermined the legal rights of the Danes.
9. Stop the neoliberal EU! No to the union of the monopolies! The Danish exceptions (10) must be maintained! Away with the Euro Plus Pact! Referendums on all changes of the EU treaty! Denmark out of EU!
10. Danish troops out of Afghanistan NOW – Stop the war against Libya! Stop war and occupations: Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine! End Danish war participation NOW! Stop the millitarization! Bring the guilty for participation in illegal wars to justice! Drop the purchase of new fighter jets! Denmark out of the war alliance NATO!
11. Stop climate talks without action! Transition to renewable energy now! Stop the trade of carbon credits! Phasing out of fossil fuels, no to nuclear power! No to gmo-crops! Stop military and wars – the biggest polluters.

9 ”lømmelpakken”, a law package created before the Climate Summit in Copenhagen, december 2009. Preventive detention was raised from max 6 hours to 12 hours. The punishment for preventing the police doing its job was raised from a fine to 40 days prison. If there was a “gross disturbance of peace and order” on the place, it would be an aggrevating circumstance, when the punishment will be handed out.

Greetings to the first legal Congress of PCOT from APK, Denmark

Dear delegates, dear comrades
On behalf of the Workers’ Communist Party of Denmark and on behalf of the Danish working class and youth we heartily greet the first congress of PCOT held in legality after the ouster of the social fascist clique of Ben Ali and consorts.
We are happy to be able to celebrate together with you this historic event for the Tunisian workers, the youth and the entire people. This is indeed a Party Congress not only of great national importance, but also of significance to the whole progressive and revolutionary global community, to the international working class and the international Marxist-Leninist communist movement.
Today Tunisia has become synonymous with its glorious revolutionary people; it is known as the cradle of the Arabic uprisings that has begun to shake the present world order of exploitation, suppression and war.
The Tunisian people with its heroic youth and workers dared defeat a long term and seemingly stable autocratic and dictatorial regime. Even if that regime enjoyed the support of the strongest and most reactionary forces of the world, including US imperialism and the imperialist United Europe of the monopolies.
We should not forget either, that Ben Ali and his despicable Party were also members of the counterrevolutionary reformist Socialist International that hailed them as a progressive Arab figure and force.
The Tunisian people persisted and did not bend to neither the violence and terror of the regime nor to the false promises of reform from Ben Ali and his successors. It did nor listen to the sugarcoated talk of ‘democracy’ and ‘aid’ from the imperialist countries, that strongly supported Ben Ali and his clique. It persisted in the demand that Ben Ali and his party should leave the Tunesian scene completely, its institutions and organizational structures be abolished and those guilty of grave crimes against the people should be punished.
We know that you, the comrades of PCOT fighting in illegality, being the permanent target of the forces of repression, played a great role in pointing out the direction of the revolutionary struggle and in mobilizing and uniting the people around the basic demands of the revolution at different stages in the struggle.
We rejoice in the fact that it is a genuine Marxist-Leninist party, a member Party of the International Conference of Marxist-Leninist Parties and organizations that played this leading role in the struggle.
This fact is no coincidence. Only a revolutionary Party, guided by the immortal principles of Marxism-Leninism, experienced in different forms of struggle, possessing the richness of the revolutionary experience of the international working class, will be able to assume the leading role in the revolution, pushing it further forward towards its historic objectives.
No matter what difficulties and twists the Tunisian revolution has encountered and will encounter a merit of world wide significance belongs to the revolutionary people, its communist Party and all progressive forces and organizations. This is the merit of bringing to the fore the question of revolution as the vehicle of any real change. It has destroyed the agenda of the imperialist New World Order that with US imperialism at the head has shaped a world of increased mass poverty and permanent wars. It has destroyed the reformist, revisionist and religious agendas, that always end in betrayal and compromise.
The revolution is once more on the global agenda. It is a question taken up for solution. The revolution – be it democratic, anti-fascist, anti-imperialist or socialist – is the aspiration and the only possible road of the peoples, the working class and its revolutionary parties. Defeating the forces of imperialism and reaction is the primary condition for any real change. No demagogue in The White House, no populist leader or party can create this change. It is only the revolutionary people, the heroism of the mass struggles, led by the Party of the revolutionary workers that can create a better future and a more just world.
Imperialism and global reaction has been frightened by the spectre of revolution that has insisted on reappearing though they have buried it many times over. They have hastened to try to distort, strangle and lead the revolution astray. They will try to install obedient regimes, distorting the just demands of the Arab peoples against their reactionary rulers, and even launch aggressive wars to that end as has happened in neighboring Libya. No progressive regime can be born from the NATO missiles. They will try to make you suffocate in the great burden of debt. That is why we demand the annulment of the debt of Tunisia to international finance capital.
Our Party will do what it can to learn from, support and defend the Tunisien revolution. For many years of your forced illegality we have campaigned for the release of the political prisoners of the Ben Ali regime and against the persecution of Comrade Hamma Hammami and many other comrades.
Now we wish, dear Comrades, that your efforts to develop the program and the new tasks of the Tunisian revolution from this Congress will be crowned with complete success, adding new victories to those already achieved.
The entire progressive world will listen to the revolutionary signals from this historic Congress.
Hail the Congress of PCOT!

Contribution to the “Revolutionary Summer Camp 2009” in Denmark
The Danish Communist Youth (DKU) (youth of the Worker’s Communist Party –APK) invited “Movement for the Reorganisation of the KKE 1918-55” to contribute in the “Revolutionary Summer Camp 2009” held in Denmark. It follows a description of our contribution translated from an article in the newpaper “Kommunistisk Politik”.
A Greek comrade from “Movement for the Reorganisation of the KKE 1918-55”, sister organization of APK, made a presentation about the Greek Unrest in December 2008.
In the beginning, the comrade described the tragic event of the murder of the iinnocent 15-year old schoolboy, Alexis Grigoropoulos, by a police officer and the youth’s reaction to this event. The speaker focused mainly in four subjects: a) How did we end up in the murder? b) Why youth’s response was so immediate and strong? c) How the movement was organised at these days and d) The aftermath of the upheaval and Greece’s current situation.
The speaker said that the murder was the culmination of the government's policy of the most extreme fascistisation of the reactionary bourgeois state and social life. In the short past police forces have shown unprecedented brutality: They attacked a Cypriot student in Thessaloniki and send him to the hospital; torturing of immigrants in police stations are very often reported; the Greek government cooperated with CIA to kidnap Pakistanis; police used gasses against protestors without any control; etc. The Greek government used these methods to stop the demonstrations of pupils, University students, teachers which since 2006 are resisting against the further privatization of the Greek education, the cancellation of the Universities asylum, the low salaries. This long-running struggle has resulted to occupations of schools and Universities for months, big strikes that lasted for weeks and tenths of thousands people demonstrating against the government. Government’s result was more and more brutality. The murder was the result of this tense situation.
The bad situation of the Greek economy, the low salaries, the high cost of leaving, the high cost of education in Greece made people displeased with the government and its politics. The murder of young Grigoropoulos was the spark that lighten up the fire. In the young boy’s dead body the pupils saw themselves.
The news of the murder spread quickly. Tenths of thousands sms messages were sent the night of the death. Groups were created in Facebook. The first demonstration was organised in the same day. In the first week after the murder more than 1,000 schools and University departments occupied by young people refusing to return to their classes until justice was given. Thousands of students demonstrated in tens of cities. Police stations and banks became their major symbolic targets: the former as symbols of fascist oppression and police terror, and the latter as symbols of exploitation (a 28 billion Euros "dowry" was given to them according to a recent government decision), the pillars of large capital, responsible for the mass unemployment, poverty and misery that great part of the population experiences.
The comrade critised the stance of the reformists of KKE, who opposed the unrest and cooperated with the government to stop it. He said that the majority of young pupils are the next shift of the working class and the slogan “Down with the government of blood and scandals” was a right slogan for the period. The impact of the revolt forces Sarcozy to postpone the education reform in France and subcommandante Marcos, leader of Zapatistas, welcomed the revolt was a bright example of struggle.
After that, the comrade analysed the current situation in Greece. The Greek movement became more experienced from this but the Greek government started also taking measures to prevent similar situations on the future. The University asylum is now almost cancelled, measures against occupation of Universities were taken, the Greek telephone company asked the National Polytechnic University to locate and reserve the servers of Indymedia network, police started occupations against immigrants, special forces in cooperation with fascist groups attack demonstrators, etc.
The comrade concluded that the teaching of the unrest is great. It helped young people to realise the role of the urban and revisionist parties, especially KKE was exposed for it stance. The whole capitalism system was taken under doubt and at the same time the unrest helped people to realise their capability to do things. On the other hand, the struggle reached a certain limit. This was explained as the absence of a real revolutionary-communist party which will help the masses to their struggle, a party which inspire people and lead the struggle and transform it to a struggle against the whole capitalism system and not only against its consciences, a party based on the principals of Marxism-Leninism.

The APK supports ‘Folkebevægelsen mod EU’, liste N (The People’s Movement against the EU) in the elections June 7th

The Workers’ Communist Party of Denmark fight for the dissolution of the European Union as an imperialist tool of the monopolist bourgeoisie and fight against the neoliberal and reactionary policy of the EU, that is applied in all member countries.
Our entire struggle against social cutbacks and police state-tendencies in Denmark is closely connected to our struggle against the EU.
We strongly raise the demand, that Denmark leaves the EU. We cherish no illusions that the EU may evolve into some kind of democratic institution, representing the needs and wishes of the peoples.
The European Union is closely connected to American imperialism and the predatory wars through the NATO and other imperialistic organizations.
The European parliament has not been recognized as a legitimate democratic institution by the peoples of Europe, and not by the Danish people either. When no party or list exist that represents the aspirations of the people the obvious choice would be to boycott the elections.
In Denmark our Party have supported and supports the The People’s Movement against the EU (Folkebevægelsen mod EU) and its participation in the elections. Folkebevægelsen mod EU has long been represented in the so-called European Parliament.
The Peoples Movement Against the EU is a genuine peoples’ movement and a broad coalition struggling with the aim of getting Denmark out of the EU, without any illusions of changing the EU 'from the inside'.
The work of The People’s Movement against the EU in the union parliament has mainly been to show the anti-democratic structures of the EU, and the connection between the neo-liberal cutbacks in Denmark and the policies of the EU.
This movement has been a major factor in the two referendums won by the Danish opponents to the European Union.
The first was in 1992, with the No-vote on the Maastricht Treaty. This made a great impact, but was followed by a defeat in the referendum the following year, which the Yes-vote won, while Denmark was excluded from full participation in the provisions of the Maastricht Treaty.
These ‘Danish exceptions’ were: the economical unions third phase (The Euro currency), Union citizenship, and parts of the military and legal program of the Union.
The second victory was a referendum in 2000 on the Danish participation in the 3rd phase of the economic union – that is a.o. the replacement of the krone with the euro. The No-vote won.
The Danes had been promised to vote on the European Constitution, but this was annulled after the No-votes in Holland and France. No referendum was allowed about the new version of this constitution, the Lisbon Treaty, which was rejected by the Irish people, the only country where a referendum has been held. The People’s Movement against the EU continues the struggle against this treaty.

The Workers Communist Party of Denmark (APK) has celebrated its 4th Congress
On the 9th and 10th of April 2009 the APK, member of the International Conference of Marxist-Leninist Parties and Organizations (ICMLPO), celebrated it's 4th Congress in Copenhagen - the capital of Denmark
The congress took place at a time where the international economic crisis is forcefully hitting Denmark with fast growing unemployment rates, bankruptcies of companies and smaller banks, foreclosures of houses and apartments, the owners not being able to pay the rent and loans, as well as a great many others consequences of the crisis, mainly affecting the workers and their living conditions.
This situation did not come as a surprise for the APK, as our last congress 2,5 year ago stated that we were at the top of the economic boom, and that a crisis would soon follow, and that this crisis would not short term, but will last for years, as the crisis was postponed by expenditures for the imperialist wars, easy loans and artificial economic bobbles as the one in the housing sector.
The Congress discussed and agreed on a general political resolution about the present situation and the tasks of the Party, and adopted a special program against crises, war and reaction with the title “We will not pay for the crisis of capital”, which underlines that the working class is not responsible for this crisis and shouldn't be the victims of it either. The working class must mobilize and fight for its rights and living conditions against the predatory capitalist policy of crisis of robbing the poor and giving to the rich.
It specifically addressed the present political situation, where the Danish international war criminal prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen resigned from his post to become the head of the warmongering imperialist NATO organization, without calling for elections, leaving the present right wing two party government coalition, that has the support of the racist and xenophobic Dansk Folkeparti, in power with the former minister of finance Lars Løkke Rasmussen at the head. The congress called for intensifying the efforts to topple this criminal government, without nurturing any illusions about the coalition of Social Democrats and leftist People’s Socialist Party, thatr would replace it.
The Congress further decided on an extensive elaboration of our “Program of Action”, adopted at the founding Congress in 2000, including the experiences of the past decade of imperialist wars under the pretext of ‘war against terror’, of reactionary anti-terror legislation and steps towards the police state, the failed racist policy of assimilation and the climate and environmental crises.
The Congress also adopted a resolution on socialism as the perspective and the final way out of the present capitalist crises and the general crises of this obsolete system. This will enforce our unity and strengthen our propaganda around this subject that we believe is central to the struggle of the working class in the upcoming years.
Both documents will continue to be discussed in the party and around it, including among members of the communist youth league DKU, sympathizers of the party, interested workers and 'partners in struggle'.
The Congress also adopted some smaller statements - among those a call to vote at the June elections for the candidates of the People’s Movement against the European Union (Folkebevægelsen mod EU), the Danish anti-EU list, that has been represented in the socalled European Parliament since the first elections to that forum. It also issued a call to participate in the protests against the false and hypocritical climate summit “COP15” in December in Copenhagen and giving the protest an anti-capitalistic character.
The basic political and organizational platform of the ICMLPO ‘On the International Situation and Our Tasks’ was presented to the Congress in the Danish edition.
The congress marked a positive shift in generations as a new generation of cadres, mainly former youth league leaders, were central figures in the celebration of the congress and will be central figures in the new Central Committee. One of them is the new spokesman of the Party Troels Riis Larsen, former chairman of DKU.
The Party’s chairman since its foundation in 2000, Comrade Dorte Grenaa, resigned as chairman. She was reelected to the Central Committee. Comrade Klaus Riis continues as editor of the Party newspaper Communist Politics.
The 4th Congress was a great success for our party and was held in an optimistic atmosphere with a strong belief in coming advances of the Party and the struggle of the working class, and in a revolutionary spirit of class struggle, strongly reaffirming and strengthening itself throughout all of the congress.

Denmark: Burning flags
The Danish prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen is frequently mentioned by international media as a favourite candidate as the next secretary general of NATO. For the first time an acting prime minister might resign from his post to become the figurehead of this imperialist grouping, originally created to ‘counter the danger from the Soviet Union’, but presently active in Central Asia – and all over the world. The appointment of an acting head of state would indicate the increased importance attached by US and the big EU powers to the development of NATO as their joint military instrument.
The inveterate war criminal and neoliberal militarist Fogh is no doubt suited for the job. He has from 2001 been the leader of the worst rightist government in Denmark since the Nazi occupation, and has systematically turned Denmark into a front runner of imperialist aggression, racism and islamophobia. An echo of George W. Bush, Fogh played a major role in the run up to the illegal war against Iraq, even surpassing his master, stating: " Iraq possesses weapons of mass destruction. This is not something we simple believe. We know it for a fact.”!
Defeated and under fire by the Danish anti war movement Fogh withdrew his soldiers from Iraq in 2007-08, sharply increasing the number of Danish combat troops in Afghanistan. 22 of them have been killed until now, proportionately the greatest losses among the NATO occupiers.
Fogh, the friend of zionist Israel, supported the islamophobic intrigue of Jyllands Posten, Denmark’s most reactionary daily, that published the Mohammed caricatures, designed as a provocation against arabs and muslims. In the 30’s of the last century this newspaper supported the policies of neighbouring chancellor Adolph Hitler towards the German jews. Fogh promoted the caricatures as ‘the Western value of freedom of expression’, while hundred of thousands muslims took to the streets, burning the Danish flag, rightly depicting Fogh as the running dog of George Bush and U.S. imperialism.
During his time in office the Danish so-called welfare state has itself been reduced to a caricature.
This is the kind of man, who is said to be the present favourite of the big EU-powers France, Germany and UK as the next secretary general of NATO. Whether Fogh will be appointed or not, the figurehead of NATO will be an accomplish militarist and imperialist. Fogh’s candidacy has created a major parliamentary crisis in Denmark, and in any case his days as Danish prime minister and leader of the war party will be numbered.
In the period of Obama, Sarkozy, Merkel and Brown NATO will not only be an auxiliary tool of the US wars, but the primary instrument of US and EU-imperialism for joint world hegemony. The European Union of old colonialist powers is not a ‘progressive counterweight to US unilateralism’. No illusions should be nurtured. Of 27 EU member countries 21 are also NATO members. Five are members of ‘Partnership for Peace’. Only Cyprus is still not involved, and only Malta has no military force in Afghanistan. Out of 26 NATO member states only the three Non-European states (Canada, US and Iceland) and one European country (Norway) are not members of the European Union.
NATO is planned to become the ‘21st century alliance for global dominance’.
Of course a majority of the Danes were and are against the imperialist wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the barbarous Israeli subjugation of the Palestinians. Great protests in the streets and elsewhere have been staged against Fogh and Danish participation in the criminal aggressions. Now the anti war movement is also focusing on combating the NATO build up.
