The town saharaui sold and betrayed

Go by the front our joy why the heroic Haminetu Haidar had saved life. The enormous courage that the village dignad defends saharaui with and her his own, it is worthy of respect and admiration we fought of against the reaction and that we backed up with doings, no with addle empty speech, the fight of the town saharaui once the FPOLISARIO was directed by their representative, opposing view the base satrap alauita, that medieval gentleman of whose friendship does elegance the tax Borbon.

Haminetu's fight has revealed, one more time, that he cannot keep in the oversight the Sáhara and its longing of independence and freedom, fight that for forty years almost he demonstrates the unbending will of that town of not submitting to the dictations of a brutal government that is dirtied in human rights, that he addresses the resolutions as the UN like worthless paper ( just like the other Democrats of the Israeli governments ) and that he blackmails the so-called democracies, in the first place to the governing Spanish pusillanimous persons already be right-wing likeOf left wings.

And you have also laid eggs of manifesto, the grotesque attitude of Government of Zapatero and of his paladin Moratinos: They became accessory when allowing that Haminetu was embarked under protest for Spain, and they have given up lacayuna to the requirement of acknowledging to them « rights « Moroccan on the Sáhara. Mr. Moratinos's clumsy declaration, « The Moroccan law is applicable in the Sáhara Occidental.» It is not needed to study to be an at academies diplomats to know what that means: Surrendering in front of the Moroccan province of a satrap, and the I order and command of the EE.UU that their interests at the zone have forced on the fair revindication of the town saharaui. Let's not forget than Government of Washington, included the one of Mr. Obama that rapidly has unmasked what you are like, a faithful servant of the North American system himself ( than next to the illiterate person and brutal Bush, it seems something else, and you are it not ), has like fundamental interest to maintain the line Turkey Israel Morocco.

The Parliament of Madrid approved some days recognizing the right to her car ago the Sáhara's determination. We already see what the decisions of the PSOE are worth: Swim, they complain about everything, they are able to sell everything, they humble themselves and become accessory of what their North American mentors and other ones decide. That attitude is not new, the historic examples that prove that that game has been almost always are many and except very worthy exceptions ( Negrín, Álvarez of the Vayo ), who makes the bed to the reaction. Let's not soar very back, let's remember that Felipe Gonzáles pronounced in his visit to the Sáhara, without knowing that those words were hearings by our comrades that the volunteers worked there, than « the village fight would back up saharaui to victory and the independence, etc.etc.».

The fight continues, the one of Haminetu, it has been a victory, more no the definite. The town saharaui needs to keep on counting on the support of the democratic and revolutionary forces. It will also be necessary to pay attention to the maneuvers and provocations that they can organize the Moroccan reaction to silence forever that further fighter of gracile aspect and will of hierro.Nada to get to their house of the Aaiún, Haminetu's family is subdued to special vigilance and his house surrounded by the police. The same Haminetu, sharp note about in vilo for relatives, it had to get out of their house in order that his doctor could enter, since I govern the police of the humanitarian you impeded his access. Actually, the Moroccan law is applicable in the Sáhara Occidental..

The Moroccan town, that is conversant with what is the dictatorship, the repression, the lack of freedoms, should back up the fight of his brothers saharaui, as you make it courageously and dignity organization Democratic Road.

Live the village fight the town saharaui!

Out of the Sahara the Moroccan troops!

Internationalist solidarity with the FPOLISARIO and their fair fight!

Turkish State chose war, instead of peace

Constitutional court has banned the Democratic Society Party (DTP) and once more showed that, Turkey has an anti-democratic law system and political management mentality.
This decision about DTP, as having links to “terror and violence”, gave rise to terror and violence in Turkey. Turkish State chose war, instead of peace with Kurdish people.
Levent TüzelThe dominant power, which backs this decision, is the alliance of AKP government with nationalist CHP-MHP opposition. This reactionary alliance could not be patient of the existence of DTP as the representative of democracy forces in the Parliament.
With this decision, Turkey had been thrown into chaos amongst “democracy, initiative and solution” words.
The labourers of Turkey will carry on the democracy, equality and will of living together to the future, with their own power and they will protect the peace and fraternity.

AKP Government throws Turkey into darkness

The possible closure of the Democratic Society Party (DTP), would create a chaotic environment that replaces dialogue with clashes.
Labour Party (EMEP), Freedom and Solidarity Party (ÖDP) and the People’s Houses (HE) held a press conference on Thursday to support the embattled DTP.
EMEP head Levent Tüzel said Monday’s attack in Tokat, which killed seven soldiers, seems to be the work of actors who want to trigger violent incidents in relation to the Kurdish problem. Tüzel said the time and location of the attack increase the possibility of it being part of a conspiracy, adding, “However, that does not reduce the AKP’s responsibility” to manage the current tense atmosphere throughout the country.
“The DTP is a bridge between communities, just as [DTP co-leader] Ahmet Türk said. If the party is closed down, there will be no representative of the Kurdish people in the political sphere and the country will slide into chaos,” said ÖDP head Alper Ta?.
“If you try to solve the Kurdish question without Kurds or without giving them rights, then it cannot be called a democratic solution,” said ?lknur Birol, head of the People’s Houses, speaking about the current court case to shut down the DTP.
The three organisations accused the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), of not taking serious steps in granting rights and freedoms to Kurdish people in Turkey.
“It turned out that the recent ‘initiative’ of the AKP is far from solving the current problems,” Birol said Thursday.
Three organisations said; AKP is employing a chauvinist discourse on the Kurdish issue, just like the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).
“The understanding that sees the Kurdish problem as a ‘terror problem’ does not bring peace,” Birol said in reference to the AKP’s recent attitude about the Kurdish question.
Street clashes between security forces and members of the DTP, along with the recent attack on soldiers in the northern province of Tokat, are signals showing that some forces want Turkey to slide into chaos, the leftist leaders said.

International Conference of Marxist-Leninist Parties and Organizations – ICMLPO

En Marcha #1466
December 4-10, 2009
Central Organ of the Marxist-Leninist Communist Party of Ecuador

International Conference of Marxist-Leninist Parties and Organizations – ICMLPO

Within a framework of fraternity and revolutionary camaraderie the International Conference of Marxist-Leninist Parties and Organizations has met in Europe. This meeting, held in the beginning of November, discussed the development of the economic crisis of the capitalist system and the international situation and concluded by defining some tasks that the Marxist-Leninists commit ourselves to work towards in our respective countries.

The economic crisis of the capitalist-imperialist system is of a general character, it is the result of the nature of this current system and historically it cannot be resolved if we do not put an end to the system that has engendered it and if in its place we do not build the society of the workers: socialism.

Despite what the bourgeois analysts and economists claim, that the crisis has touched bottom and that we are seeing a process of economic recovery, the respective indicators show that it is continuing, it is continuing with greater intensity in the more developed capitalist economies, but also in the dependent countries. In the one and the other, the workers and peoples are its main victims.

The proposals that the bourgeoisie is applying in each of the countries to overcome the crisis have as common elements to place its effects on the backs of the workers and peoples; to carry out plans that combine neo-liberal measures with protectionist and interventionist ones that have led some to believe in the return of Keynesianism. They all seek to defend large capital and its owners, the large financial and industrial groups.

Tens of thousands of workers are today enlarging the ranks of the unemployed, many peasants have had to abandon their lands in search of bread, at best finding themselves in underemployment and migration, poverty and despair. The workers are not the ones who caused the crisis and must not pay for its consequences. Let the ones who are responsible, the imperialist powers, the owners of the banks and industries, the owners of capital, pay for it!

Hunger is on display in various parts of the world while the imperialist powers are destroying the economies of the dependent countries, pillaging their natural resources, speculating in the prices of food and raw materials and causing backwardness and stagnation.

Today young people face more acute problems than in the past; the difficulties in finding a job as well as continuing their studies are greater. Everywhere the number of those without shelter, of men and women who have the streets and squares of the cities as their homes, is increasing.

In the imperialist countries, the Governments are promoting actions and laws to increase xenophobia and criminalize immigrants, such as in the Decree of Shame adopted by the European Parliament. We demand the right of immigrants to work where they now live and together with the proletariat of these countries we shout: They work here, they live here, they will stay here!

The fascistization and the establishment of police states are among the measures taken by finance capital to confront the crisis, to ensure their economic and political rule, and to confront the discontent of the workers and peoples.

In the context of the crisis the imperialist powers are looking to settle accounts, thus exacerbating the inter-imperialist confrontation and increasing the danger of war. In fact, the presence of their military troops in various regions of the world shows their goal of conquering new markets, of provoking a new redistribution of the world. We the peoples will not pay for or take part in these wars!

The unbridled pursuit of enrichment of the international bourgeoisie, the aim of the monopolies to rule the market and the world, have led to the destruction of the environment and now they are playing with finding measures of environmental protection. The solutions of the "eco-neoliberals" to confront this problem are a farce; we support the popular mobilizations that denounce those really responsible for the environmental crisis and raise alternative proposals that challenge capitalism as the one directly responsible for this evil.

The discontent of workers and the peoples confronted with the effects of the crisis is increasing and is taking the form of mass mobilization. Their banners are waving with greater force every day in all continents and we Marxist-Leninists are taking part in those battles, inviting the workers to struggle to put an end to the world of capital.

Together with them we are fighting to put an end to mass redundancies and to the flexibilization of labour, which results in part-time work; to reduce the working day and be given two rest days each week without reducing wages; to establish a decent minimum wage for all sectors or to be guaranteed income to cover the basic needs of the unemployed; to respect and promote collective bargaining and to ensure the implementation of their rights, particularly the right to work; that public services reach the poor and not be privatised, that provide free health care and education, that the undocumented workers can work where they live.

We raise these demands to confront the effects of the crisis of the system, but it is necessary to insist that only the social revolution of the proletariat will put an end to this endemic evil of capitalism. Those who argue that it is possible to deal with the crisis and protect the rights of workers by better regulating labour relations or democratizing international relations are lying! They are trying to protect the interests of business, industrial and financial groups.

Capitalism is experiencing a great crisis, this is true. The most serious and most acute known to mankind in these last eighty years; however, capitalism will not fall by itself, it still has chances to recover. But the strength of the workers and peoples is greater if we join forces to overthrow it.

We Marxist-Leninists are committed to bring about the victory of the social revolution of the proletariat; to successfully complete this task we are working to unite all those social and political sectors interested in fighting against political and social domination and oppression, in winning freedom and independence. History will be our witness that we can do it.

2009 salutes the Greek student youth’s grand spontaneous uprising that shows the way of struggle

1st Anniversary

http://sup.kathimerini.gr/kathnews/photos/11-12-08/11-12-08_259905_21.jpg

The year 2008 came to a close with the student youth’s grand spontaneous uprising, a pivotal event that the new year 2009 welcomes and salutes as the spark that will trigger successive outbreaks of the class struggle between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat in a period of a continuously deepening economic crisis, of intensified exploitation and oppression, of increased unemployment, of grave poverty and misery; in a period of escalating police rule, fascist terror and the fascist transformation of social life.

The student youth’s uprising in Greece – despite its spontaneous and unorganized character – is the spotlight that shows the path for the future struggle battles of the workers and peasants in our country and elsewhere.

Contrary to the Kruschevite revisionist leaders of “K”KE, the revolutionary Marxists, i.e. the Leninists-Stalinists, the old communist partisans of ELAS and DAG, as well as the young communists, unreservedly welcomed the spontaneous, militant uprising of the student youth because they saw it as an important link in the chain of workers’ and peasants’ struggles against fascist oppression, unemployment and misery.
The student youth’s spontaneous and militant uprising shook the entire country and caused panic to the youth’s murderer, the reactionary government of the “New Democracy” (ND) party, and also, the Kruschevite revisionist leaders of “K”KE who found themselves in the same reactionary camp with the former. All of the reactionaries, in a state of horror, tried in vain to discover the “instigators” of the uprising in “foreign circles” and present the youth as “hooded thugs” who adopt “blind violence” without goals and demands. Moreover, the news of the uprising alarmed the leaders of the imperialist EU and reverberated across the world reaching Latin America, from Mexico and Argentina to Brazil.

The events

The riots started on 6 December 2008, when Alexandros “Alexis” Grigoropoulos, a 15-year-old student, was shot and killed in cold blood by a police officer in the Exarchia district of central Athens.

The cold blooded murder committed by the police of the Karamanlis government sparked an unprecedented, in its scale and militancy, youth uprising and lighted the fire of struggle against the murderous police terror and the fascist transformation of social life all over the country. This murder was the result and pinnacle of the reactionary course that began with the re-establishment of the royal-fascist, right-wing state, continued with the tortures of immigrant workers in police precincts, the arbitrary arrests and the bashing of civilians on the street, went as far as the stripping of a female lawyer in the Omonia square police precinct on August 2008 and culminated in the murder of the 15-year old student in the centre of Athens.

The news of Alexis’ murder caused a burst of outrage throughout the country. On Sunday and Monday thousands of people passionately protested in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra, Heraklion and other cities against the government of blood and violence. In many cases, the demonstrators clashed with the police and in Athens the riots continued until late on Sunday evening.

The seriousness of the riots is indicative by the following. The Fire Brigade, in a bulletin issued on Monday morning, announced that the damage caused in the rioting, up until midnight Sunday, included: in Athens, the burning of 24 banks, 35 shops, 22 cars, 12 homes, 63 trash receptacles, 7 bus stops and a ruling New Democracy local organisation office; in Patras, a bank, a police patrol car, four cars, a vehicle belonging to the Achaia prefectural authority, 14 dumpsters and a police parking log; in Thessaloniki, 9 banks, the Macedonia-Thrace ministry's press office, 7 cars, 40 dumpsters, the Aristotelion University's canteen, an ND local organisation office, and three Metro construction sites; in Heraklion, Crete, two banks and four trash bins; in Chania, a prefectural car and 8 dumpsters; in Kavala, an ND local office, a trash receptacle and the passport office at the police directorate; and in Chryssoupolis, a border guard post. The Fire Brigade clarified that the above damages were incurred chiefly by molotov cocktails, and the damage listed did not include destruction caused by rocks, wood, marble and other items thrown at targets during the riots.

As the revolutionary Marxists pointed out from the start, the revolt singled out two “important and symbolic targets: police precincts and banks. The former as symbols of fascist oppression and police terror and the latter as symbols of exploitation, props of capital that are responsible for massive unemployment, poverty and misery of large masses” (9/12/2008).

The attacks-sieges of the youth against police precincts were more than 30 throughout the country – Greece hasn’t experienced such attacks since December of 1944, although then, they were more organized and launched not only by the youth. At the same time, many were the attacks against the strongholds of the large capital, the banks. The damages to shops was the work of an army of police agents and they were part of the government’s provocative plan to, first, terrorize small proprietors and come, then, to their rescue offering them “peace, order and security”. The implementation of this plan has already started with police assaults of unprecedented barbarity directed not only against students and teachers but also against journalists and lawyers.

Occupations in University departments and schools (more than 1,000 in total) lasted for more than 3 weeks.

Aftermath

The great uprising of the student youth – despite its spontaneous character – was the most important in the history of the youth movement since 1974 as far as the scale, the militancy, and the content of the struggle’s demands is concerned: a) struggle against police violence and murderous terror in particular and against fascist transformation of society in general, b) struggle against exploitation, unemployment, poverty and misery of the working people. This uprising was not “opposed to the working class movement” and to the “working class” as the revisionist leaders Papariga et al claim in their reactionary attempt to undermine the working class-youth unity. On the contrary, the student youth did not, and objectively could not, find itself in opposition to the working class because: 1) as far as its class origin is concerned the overwhelming majority of student youth are children of workers and peasants 2) as far as the content of the struggle is concerned, both a) the struggle against bourgeois state and the fascist transformation and b) the struggle against unemployment, poverty and misery are inseparable parts of the struggle of the proletariat and the wide working masses. Therefore, the student youth through its spontaneous uprising found itself in the same trench together with the workers, the peasants and wide working masses in general.

The contribution of the youth's uprising – whose spontaneous character did not reduce its importance, although the lack of organization was its weak spot – to the struggle of the working class and the people of Greece in this period of the continuous worsening in every aspect of life (a worsening that will grow the following years due to the deep economic crisis) consists in the following:

Firstly, it disturbed violently the stagnant waters and shook the rotten and corrupted capitalistic society, while it terrified and threw into panic the reactionary bourgeoisie and its parties which are (mainly the reactionary government of Karamanlis) and the social-democrat leaders of “K”KE who are the servants of the great capital.

Secondly, it initiated militantly and massively the beginning of the struggle of the working class and the people against the extreme fascist transformation of the bourgeoisie state, the police terror, the fascist violence and generally the struggle against fascist transformation of the social life of Greece.

Thirdly, it initiated militantly-massively the struggle of the working people against unemployment, poverty and wretchedness which will rise sharply during the crisis period.

Fourthly, it sharpened the class struggle and broke the stagnation, the passiveness and the disappointment of the broad popular masses which was the result of the treacherous policy of class collaboration that is promoted by the reformist leaders of GSEE (the General Confederation of Greek Workers) -ADEDY (the Civil Servants' Confederation).

Fifthly, it showed the way towards the future class struggles against the capital, in contrast with the way of obedience and cooperation with the capitalists that follows the social-democrat leadership of “K”KE and the reformists of PAME (the workers’ platform of “K”KE).

Sixthly, it forced the bourgeois social-democratic “K”KE a) not just openly enter the camp of the forces of capital, but moreover b) to join the avant-guard of the the ultra-reactionary monarch-fascist (ND) and nazi-fascist (LAOS, “Golden Dawn”, etc.) reactionary forces.

The enraged uprising of the student youth threw into panic not only the representatives and the servants of the local capital but also the representatives of the imperialistic EU which withdrew the planned unpopular measures or did not materialize them (in the case of Sarkozy in France) fearing that there will be uprisings in their own countries (the representatives of European capital claimed: “there is great danger for the uprising in Greece to be spread all over Europe”). Furthermore, the uprising won the solidarity and the admiration of the youth in the west-European countries. A similar reaction was displayed by the youth in many Latin American countries (“viva la rebelion en Grecia”, Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Subcomadante Marcos in Mexico: “Espero no haber dicho una groser a, lo que quise decir fue Companera, companero, Grecia rebelde. Nosotros, los mas pequenos, desde este rincon del mundo te saludamos. Recibe nuestro respeto y admiracion por lo que piensas y haces. Desde lejos aprendemos de ti. Gracias.”

The stance of the reformists

The youth’s uprising didn’t cause alarm only to the ruling bourgeois class but also to the Khruschevite social democratic leadership of “K”KE which was trying for a month to exorcise the ghost of the youth’s revolt.

From the very first moment, “K”KE sided with the reactionary Karamanlis government against the uprising of the youth, The “K”KE secretary Papariga together with the Karamanlis government, the ultra-reactionary LAOS party and the fascist press presented slanderously the uprising of the youth as a movement of “hooded thugs” “instigated” by foreign imperialist circles (Papariga’s statements, “Real News” 21/12/2008, p. 1).

Moreover, in a press conference, shortly after her meeting with the prime minister, Papariga instead of denouncing the murderous police violence and the Karamanlis government as the murderer of the youth, she blamed SYN (the euro-“communist” branch of Kruschevite revisionism) for supporting the revolt: “We ask the leadership of SYN to stop flattering the hooded thugs (“Rizospastis”, 10/12/2008)”. Naturally, this reactionary statement was welcomed by various fascist newspapers: “Only KKE dared to conflict with the petty agents who carry out the dirty plan of destabilization”. (“Avriani”, 15/12/2008)

The current pro-fascist attitude of the “K”KE leaders has embarrassed the members and the friends of this social democratic party – losing, thus, not only its anti-nationalist and anti-imperialist but also its anti-fascist character – to such an extent that the fascist press openly invites them to assume the role of the police and the fascist “shock group” that will come to the rescue of the reactionary bourgeois regime! For example, the tabloid Avriani headlines read: “If the police are incapable, let the citizens or KKE undertake the restoration of order (“Avriani”, 19/12/2008).

Finally, by saying incredible – but totally reactionary – things that do not make the least historical or logical sense, the “K”KE leaders proclaimed that “the youth’s uprising ridicules and vulgarizes the popular uprising”, because, allegedly, “in a real popular uprising there will not be a single window broken” (“Rizospastis”, 23/12/2008). They go as far as to urge others not to talk about “popular uprising” or even “youth’s uprising”. Once again, by so eagerly defending the peaceful parliamentary road, the “K”KE leaders proved to be worthy disciples of Bernstein-Kautsky.

Conclusions

The teaching of the Greek student youth’s is great. It helped young people and the working class to realise the role of the urban and revisionist parties. The whole capitalism system was taken under doubt and at the same time the unrest helped people to realise their capability to do things. On the other hand, the struggle reached a certain limit. This is due to the absence of a real revolutionary-communist party in Greece which will help the masses to their struggle, a party which will inspire people and lead the struggle and transform it to a struggle against the whole capitalism system and not only against its consciences, a party based on the principals of Marxism-Leninism and this is our duty to create this party.

Turkey: Public servants were on strike for the right to strike

2 million public workers were on strike on 25th November. And tens of thousands of people took to the streets in major cities all over Turkey to take part in warning strike by the public workers who urge for the right to strike and for collective agreements. The public servants were supported by trade associations, workers' unions and some parties like our Party, EMEP. The strike was co-organised by Public Workers' Unions Federation (KESK) and Turkish Public Union (Turk Kamu-Sen). Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions (DISK), Turkey Labour Unions Confederation (Turk-IS), the Turkish Physicians Association (TTB) and the Turkish Pharmacists Association were among the supporting organisations.
Co-organiser of the strike KESK President Sami Evren warned the government, in his speech in front of thousands of people on Beyaz?t Square in the old town of Istanbul. “If you do not grant these rights to us, we will expand the strike” Evren warned the government.
KESK President Evren recalled that they proposed the government a collective labour agreement board as a solution for “collective bargaining” on 15 August: “The prime minister ran away from the board. He wanted to receive our decisions in a collective bargaining board. We refused that”. Evren emphasized the need for sitting down at a collective labour agreement table on equal terms in order to properly defend the workers' rights and interests.
According to Turkish labour law, public servants are not entitled for collective bargaining and public servants unions are not granted the right for strike. Even though Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan proclaimed the strike illegal, a large number of employees participated.
Kamu-Sen President Bircan Aky?ld?z, speaking at several places across Ankara, noted that this strike was not being formed “for fun” and that the strike was organized to obtain “political power.” Highlighting that this protest would bring justice and more rights to public workers, Aky?ld?z stated that “those who think that civil servants sit idle and aren't productive will see today our importance.”
“Threats by authorities and other unions will not distract us from our path. These threats are trying to silence us and tell us that these problems will be solved at the bargaining table. We’ve waited for the administration for seven years to sit with us at that table and told them to uphold their promises… All of the civil servants waiting for a serious answer from the powers that be now realize that there won’t be one, and this is why we are here today,” stated Aky?ld?z.
Turkish Transportation Union President Nazmi Guzel, who spoke to strikers at the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) 2nd General Directorate, stated that all trains would stop at midnight on Tuesday night, noting that trains would not be running throughout Wednesday. Except for four members of the union who were taken in for questioning, Guzel noted that the strikes had been mostly trouble-free.
Guzel noted that besides the strikes by railway workers, workers in ports had also stopped loading and unloading ships and that there weren’t enough workers at runways to continue operations. “We warned 200 airlines about the strike, and also warned passengers. There aren’t enough workers at runways to accept landing planes. This is incredibly risky if administrators decide to let planes land, and we will not accept any responsibility if anything happens,” he said. Speaking on railway workers, Guzel noted that “there aren’t enough conductors to run trains, and if they are run, then we will not be responsible for any accidents that may come about from this risky manoeuvre.”
Train passengers left stranded
In a strike starting on Tuesday at midnight, railroad workers refused to work, leaving thousands of passengers stranded with little alternatives. Train stations in Ankara, Istanbul, Gaziantep, Sakarya, Eskisehir and other provinces in Anatolia were frozen as trains waited at the stations, with conductors refusing to run trains. Some passengers were forced to use inner-city buses to travel within the cities, and others used coach busses after waiting for hours in stations without any word from the administration about when trains would start moving again.
Istanbul on strike
In Istanbul, railway services were partially out of service, as well as the mail delivery service and several hospitals that would only accept emergencies. Besides, some school and university students closed down for the day.
Approximately 10,000 people gathered in front of the Capa Faculty of Medicine on Istanbul's European side, shouting slogans like "We demand the right to collective agreements", "Forbid dismissals", "Work for the unemployed" and "free education and health service". "We don't want to be unemployed graduates" was heard from high school and university students. Another crowd had come together at Sirkeci station at the entrance of the Golden Horn. Both groups met on Beyazit Square later on.
Ankara: Police force against striking workers
In Ankara, the police stepped in against the workers on strike. The police violently intervened against a strike group that had gathered on Ankara's popular Ziya Gökalp Avenue.
Since the morning the rail service in Turkey's capital was down. The railroad workers had posted placards at their work places. 2 hospitals limited their service to running the emergency rooms only. Workers in the health sector gathered at the Hacettepe Faculty of Medicine Hospital.
Press conferences and demonstrations were held in more than 40 cities including big cities as well as Anatolia, which had not seen a demonstration for a long time. The placard “On strike!” was hung in many workplaces.

Proletarskaya gazeta: To all! To all! To all!

On October 26th the administration of the FSUE (Federal State Unitary Enterprise, State Corporation for Air Traffic Control, http://www.gkovd.ru/wwwX/. Our note) issued an order to forbid access to the building and offices belonging to the trade unions to the president of FUATC/R (Federal Union of Air Traffic Controllers of Russia, http://www.fatcurus.ru/. Our note) to the leadership of the local union of the FSUE and the officials of the elected trade union bodies.

The electronic passes needed by the union officials to access the company were revoked and security was instructed by the director general of FSUE to prevent them from accessing the premises of the trade union.

The premises held by the trade union, which were granted by virtue of the agreement adopted on May 25th 2007 between the general director of FSUE and FUATC/R, according to which the office located in the building of FSUE (Moscow, Leningradskii Prospect, dom 37, korpus 7, kom. 254) was allocated indefinitely and without charge to the Executive Committee of FUATC/R and to the local Union Committee of FSUE.

As long as the administration had no major disagreement with the representative of the amployes according to the conditions laid down by the collective bargaining with FSUE the administration respected the agreement adopted on May 25th 2007 with regards to the premises of the union.

At some point the local union committee of FSUE repeatedly appealed to various authorities about violations by the director general of FSUE, Gorbenko, V.M of the collective bargaining adopted for 2007-2010 and the conditions of the agreement of 19/05/2009 together with other instances of violation of labor legislation. Only in the last month Moscow’s prosecutor’s office to oversee implementation of laws on air and water sent three citations to the director general of FSUE, Gorbenko V.M. regarding the violation of labor laws and one warning against violations of the law. However, director general of FSUE, Gorbenko V.M. ignores these warnings.

Currently the director general of FSUE is not conforming to three main agreements signed by the employer:
·    The collective bargain of FSUE for 2007-2010;
·    Agreement of 25/05/2007 about the allocation of an office to the union representatives to develop their activities;
·    Agreement of 19/05/2009 about the increase of wages effective July 2009 in accordance with the collective bargain in force.

It is necessary to note that these three documents were signed by the head of the Federal air Navigation Service Neradko A.V.
The fact that the union representatives have repeatedly appealed to the prosecutor’s office has been used by the administration as an excuse to block the passes of the union representatives.

As a result, the employer has deprived the union representatives of the access to all the necessary documentation about the union organization, press, foundation documents, telephone and e-mail communication with the outside world, etc…

ICMLPO: To the working class, the working people and the oppressed peoples around the world!

November is the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the bourgeoisie is carrying on its umpteenth attack on communism and the working class, peppered with the stalest historical falsifications.
It has been 20 years in which the ruling class has tried to divert the aspirations for change of the working class and peoples with demagogic promises of a “new world order” and lies about the “end of socialism,” to prevent any attempt at resistance, revolt, discussion of or doubt in the capitalist system.
As a result of the events of 1989, the imperialist propagandists announced the end of history, that ideologies were finished, obsolete (except obviously those of the bourgeoisie), that the revolution is a thing of the past, and that therefore there is only one direction for humanity: the one based on private property of the means of social production.
Since then, together with presenting the developments in Eastern Europe as the "defeat of communism," they have imposed the neoliberal policy, the "right to interference," "preventive wars" for the reconquest of the world by the U.S. imperialists. The bourgeoisie has strengthened its offensive against the working class and popular masses to increase their exploitation and the looting of the peoples by imperialism.
The revisionists and social-democrats are currently divided between those who cover themselves with ashes and those who alter and distort the facts that led to the fall of the Wall. In recent years many of them have shifted further to the right, showing their ideological and political weakness, and others have gone directly over to the enemy camp. Others advocate that it is no longer time for revolution, that one must go along with the rules imposed by the bourgeoisie, or must limit oneself to reforms, and they condemn the communist and revolutionary forces who oppose the situation that has been created and are reorganizing and retaking the road of struggle.
The communists know that the fall of the Berlin Wall has not meant the collapse of proletarian socialism; it has been the final stage of a process of destruction of the dictatorship of the proletariat and of capitalist restoration by the revisionism that began in the 1950s and 1960s in the USSR and in most countries of the East. The collapse of the so-called "real socialism" has meant the collapse of a superstructure which did not correspond to the existing relations of production, but because of its external features in "socialist" theory it has helped to sow confusion, leading to an ebb and the loss of positions of the working class.
The fall of the Wall does not overturn the validity of Marxism-Leninism as a revolutionary theory, but has completed the parabola of the revisionist ideology in Eastern Europe. It has not resolved the principal contradictions of our time but has led to their worsening, as evidenced by today's reality.
What have we actually seen in the last 20 years?
Instead of overcoming the economic, social and political obstacles that hold back the emancipation of mankind, we have seen even higher walls raised against the exploited and oppressed.
Walls that separate the financial oligarchy, which lives in luxury and wastefulness, from the great masses of men and women who create all wealth with their labour, without benefitting from it because they are forced to suffer the yoke of intense exploitation, unemployment, precariousness and poverty, only receiving charity from the bourgeois governments.
Walls between a handful of imperialist powers and the dependent countries subjected to brutal looting of their resources, forced into underdevelopment and condemned to hunger.
Walls represented by obscurantism, ignorance, religious oppression and bourgeois cosmopolitanism, which serve to keep the workers submissive and ignorant.
Walls such as the one raised against migrants between the U.S. and Mexico, in Europe, in the Mediterranean, or the one built by Zionism in Palestine, the one maintained by imperialism in the Korean peninsula and many others.
What has been the result after two decades of promises thrown to the four winds by the ruling class?
They promised "economic growth," but we have seen the unprecedented extension of parasitism and speculation, economic and financial crises that are more and more frequent and deeper, up to the present one, the most serious and destructive crisis of the last 80 years, which is the manifestation of all the problems accumulated previously.
They guaranteed "freedom and democracy", but these hypocritical words were soon transformed into the enhanced dictatorship of a group of imperialist countries and financial monopolies, into an even fiercer neo-colonial domination to which hundreds of dependent countries and nations are subjected, into coups d'état such as the ones that took place recently in Honduras and in Africa, into the suppression of the rights of the workers and of democratic liberties in many countries, into police States that are increasingly authoritarian and fascist.
They promised a "world of peace," but the imperialist powers, headed by the U.S., have re-enforced their arsenals and military apparatus, they have unleashed a succession of wars of aggression and acts of real terrorism that have cut down hundreds of thousands of victims, and they have intensified the rivalries between the imperialist countries and monopoly groups for a new division of raw materials, of markets and spheres of influence, thus increasing the risk of a new world conflict.
They spoke of "protection of the environment," but we see that the search for maximum profit has devastated the ecosystem and made evident that capitalism, with its desire for pillage, is incompatible with the very existence of humankind.
And what about the situation of the countries of East European who have “returned to freedom”? Starvation wages, mass unemployment, the elimination of social gains, economic catastrophe, increased mortality, crime, prostitution, most servile subordination to the interests of Western imperialism or, in the case of Russia, affirmation of the most reactionary chauvinism in order to assert the same imperialist interests. Is it to be wondered if in these countries today there is a growing "nostalgia for socialism," that is for a social system superior to capitalism, which made great achievements in spite of the continuous imperialist aggression, until revisionism undermined it from within and then caused it to collapse?
In these 20 years the working class, the working people and the majority of the peoples have not surrendered in spite of the blows they have suffered, they have not accepted wage slavery and imperialist oppression in silence. The ebb in the class struggle has gradually given way to a greater resistance and a new rise in the political and social struggle, which is expressed in different ways in different countries. In particular in the last decade we have seen an important process of renewal of the struggles, significant advances of the workers and peoples, despite the increasing aggressiveness of the bourgeoisie.
History did not end with the fall of the Berlin Wall; on the contrary there has been an evident acceleration. The struggle of the social classes, which is the motive force for the achievement of communism, is advancing together with the communist and international workers movement. The protagonists of the struggle for social transformation are arising and are prepared for battle! This also concerns the bourgeoisie which, twenty years after the proclaimed “death of communism," has to exorcise it continuously, to denigrate and criminalize its ghost, in order to prevent the proletariat from recovering its revolutionary theory.
All this shows that the alleged superiority and invincibility of capitalism is a lie, that the reasons for the revolution and socialism continue to be as present and valid as ever.
Today we are in an international situation that is very different from that of 1989. The bourgeoisie is in a disastrous economic crisis as a result of the laws of capitalism, and it does not have answers for the needs and aspirations of the workers and peoples. It is more vulnerable than before, and there are many weak links in the chain of its rule.
The current crisis of relative overproduction, interrelated with the general crisis of the imperialist-capitalist system, will last for a long time, revealing to the masses the true face of the bourgeoisie: a class which has long ago exhausted its historic role, but which is still calling on the workers and peoples to make the "necessary sacrifices" to ensure its survival and privileges.
While the governments are taking huge sums of money from the public treasury to serve the capitalist monopolies and the banks, unemployment is constantly growing, wages, pensions and social services are being dismantled, and therefore the workers are falling into misery and hunger. The offensive of the capitalists is taking ever sharper forms, the bourgeoisie and their governments are launching their attack against the political and economic gains achieved at the cost of hard struggles. Fascism is advancing in many countries, promoted by the most reactionary groups of financial capital. New robbers’ wars are being prepared.
This situation shows the incompatibility of interests between the proletariat and the bourgeoisie and places before the working class and the working masses the urgent need to form a united front of struggle against the capitalist offensive, political reaction and imperialist aggression.
The main obstacle that today is hindering the formation of the united front is the policy of class collaboration followed by the social democratic parties and the yellow unions, the real social props of the bourgeoisie. They promise the masses a "reformism" already put out of use by the inexorable laws of capitalism, they put a break on and divide the workers’ and trade union movement, they divert it towards parliamentary cretinism and they open the doors to the reactionary forces.
To remove this obstacle, to fight effectively, the workers need to unite in order to intransigently defend their economic and political interests, advancing a concrete program of action against the bourgeoisie: against layoffs, the decline in wages, cuts in social spending, so that the consequences of the crisis fall on the bosses, the rich, the parasites. They must intensify the fight against the capitalist offensive in the factories, the countryside and the streets, organizing a broad international counter-offensive, so that the proletariat and peoples will not be sacrificed for the economic interests of the capitalists!
At the same time, the communists and revolutionaries must unite all the genuinely democratic, progressive and left-wing forces, to give impetus to the anti-imperialist and anti-fascist struggle, to encourage the trend towards change that is developing in the world, particularly in Latin America and Asia, to develop solidarity between the peoples.
The parties and organizations of the ICMLPO, together with the political and social forces that support the present call, put forward to the masses the problem of the revolutionary solution to the crisis of capitalism. Faced with the measures taken by the bourgeois governments, with the illusions sown by those who propose to "regulate" a social order in decomposition, the communists state that the evils of imperialism have no cure, that the only solution to the general crisis of capitalism is proletarian socialism, a planned society of the producers.
Therefore, while we take part and in and support the increasingly acute forms of struggle under the blows of the crisis, while we cooperate in their organization, pointing out that the workers must refuse to bear the consequences of the crisis, we say that the situation will get worse if the proletariat and peoples fail to accumulate forces to respond to the attack and to fight to overturn the dictatorship of the exploiting classes, for a new and higher social order.
Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the socialist revolution has once again become a problem that must be solved by the consolidation and the formation of strong communist parties that raise the banner of Marxism-Leninism, the flag of the October Soviet Revolution, the flag of the world proletarian revolution!

We condemn the coup d’état and support the struggle of the workers and people of Honduras

The member organizations of the International Conference of Marxist-Leninist Parties and Organizations repudiate the coup d’état carried out by militarism and the Honduran oligarchy against the government of José Manuel Zelaya. This action, which was known by and had the support of the U.S. government, is not only an attempt to put a brake on the democratic process that had begun in that Central American country; it is also a test and a warning of what the reactionary forces are willing to do to halt and reverse the victories won by the peoples of Latin America, which have resulted in the formation of progressive and democratic governments in various countries in the region.

The development in that continent of a democratic, progressive and left-wing trend, which has blocked the way and in some cases pushed aside the neoliberal forces, worries imperialism and the local bourgeoisies which are conspiring against the political process underway. In April of 2002 they tried unsuccessfully to put an end to the government of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela; in 2007 a first coup attempt by the Bolivian oligarchy against the Government of Evo Morales was denounced. In both cases, the direct involvement of the United States Embassy was condemned.

U.S. imperialism, which has looked at the Americas as its back yard, now has great difficulties in developing its policy in the region. The formation of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) was prevented by the struggle of the workers and the people; the proposal for integration and solidarity through the Bolivarian Alternative for the America (ALBA) is receiving the sympathy of the peoples. The resolution adopted at the 39th session of the Organization of American States (OAS), which returned to Cuba its place in that Organization, shows the changes that have taken place in the relation of forces in the American subcontinent.

The developments in Honduras show that social and national liberation can only move forward under the leadership of the workers and are only achieved by the overthrow of the power of the capitalists and the domination of imperialism by the revolution and socialism. As revolutionaries we support any struggle and any democratic and progressive process, but we warn that it is wrong to feed illusions that change is possible by way of reforms.

The ICMLPO expresses its solidarity with the workers and people of Honduras, who have taken to the streets and countryside to repudiate this coup d’état, demanding the return to office of President Manuel Zelaya. The Honduran workers will understand along the way the need to link the struggle for democracy with the objective of the revolutionary transformation of society. In that fight they have our full support.

Concerted Action by the Right Wing

Editorial of the weekly En Marcha
No. 1457, September 12 2009

Concerted Action by the Right Wing

A concerted action is underway by the forces of the right wing at the international level; the call several days ago for a “global protest” against the Venezuelan Government is an expression of this. Although on this occasion the target was Hugh Chavez, the aim is to create a mass movement to confront the democratic, progressive and left-wing current that is taking shape in Latin America. After a period of relative tolerance by oligarchic sectors and U.S. imperialism itself towards some of the democratic governments in the region, there is a change in their political behavior: the big bourgeoisie which has lost space in several countries is trying to get out of the political corner and the United States government wants to put its “back yard” in order.
We said previously that the coup d'état in Honduras was a trial balloon. The right wing and imperialism hoped that after an initial condemnation of the coup, things would return to normal, however they ran into heavier resistance by the Honduran people than they expected and continental solidarity of the peoples and inter-state agencies such as the OAS [Organization of American States], UNO [United Nations Organization], ALBA [Bolivarian Alliance of the Americas], UNASUR [Union of South American Nations] and others.
Now they are trying to form a mass movement that meets specific political aims in each country. In Colombia – where the initiative “arose” – they are trying to strengthen the social base of the pro-Uribe right wing that supports his counter-insurgency policy and his subjection to U.S. imperialism; in other countries such as ours, under the banner of condemning the supposed interventionism of Chavez, it is seeking to organize a movement of opposition to local governments. That has happened here, where known exponents of the right wing, direct opponents of the Rafael Correa government, spearheaded the paltry protest.
In this international strategy of the right wing and imperialism, the media plays a fundamental role; it fulfills the role of active promoters and disseminators of the “international protest”. An example of this is how they exaggerated the actions of that day.
The workers and peoples must block the actions of the right wing, and the best way to do this is by raising the levels of their own organizations. But in the country this is somewhat difficult because while the popular movement is ready to confront the onslaught of the right and of imperialism, it must also take care to confront the government’s action launched against the popular movement. Rafael Correa is mistaken here.

Electoral Process in the Ivory Coast: What Must the Ivorian People Do to Exercise Sovereignty?

Revolutionary Communist Party of the Ivory Coast (PCRCI)

Electoral Process in the Ivory Coast: What Must the Ivorian People Do to Exercise Sovereignty?

The upper bourgeois of the Ivory Coast has constantly written and repeated that democracy is government of the people, by the people and for the people. This is written in black on white in Article 30 of the Ivorian constitution. Article 31 of the same Constitution states, more precisely, that sovereignty belongs to the people.
The same Constitution does not prescribe representative mandate for life; in particular, the presidential term is limited. Indeed, paragraph 1 of article 35 of the same Constitution provides: "the President of the Republic is elected for five years by direct universal suffrage. He may be re-elected only once."
Despite all these beautiful statements, the upper bourgeoisie is waging a policy that prevents the people from exercising their sovereignty. At the present time the Ivorian people find themselves in a situation where they are facing a destiny in which their sovereign right is scorned. Indeed, the presidential term and the parliamentary terms were over nearly 5 years ago. All the representatives whose terms have expired, starting with the President of the Republic, do not feel any embarrassment and show no willingness to give up to the people the seats that they still occupy in an illegitimate and illegal way. Despite the great suffering of the people, despite the cries of pain of the people, these ladies and gentlemen, so-called representatives of the people, closed their ears and shut their eyes in order to hear nothing and see nothing.
Faced with this shameful situation, one thing is certain; the people will sooner or later take up their responsibilities despite the manoeuvres of certain political forces to keep them in a state of apathy and illusion. Above all, the Revolutionary Communist Party of the Ivory Coast (PCRCI) will help them every day to diagnose the evil and identify the best remedies.
The most effective remedy recommended by the PCRCI is organization. Indeed, a people organized in committees of wage workers, of peasants, of artisans, of merchants, women’s committees, youth committees, committees of high school and university students, etc., becomes an invincible people able to confront any swindler.
The Ivorian people know well those who do not wish to organize elections and who therefore want to prolong their suffering. They have taken the measure of the latter and are preparing to take up their responsibilities to deal with them. The appearance of any "saviour" can only be a diversion. In the current situation, the danger of a diversion can come from more than one side. The diversion that is most dangerous is a military coup d’état. Ivorian history has shown that, faced with the threat of seizure of power in 1999 with the establishment of a constitution and an anti-democratic electoral law as well as the spreading of the reactionary theory of Ivoirian ethnicity, plotters of a coup appeared on the political scene and made the people believe that they could solve the problems that assailed the Ivoirian people. To get rid of this military regime, the Ivorian people had to make great sacrifices. The civilian regime resulting from the referendum and the presidential election organized by the military was never intended to, and never could dismantle military rule. Less than two years after its establishment, the civilian rule called the "Refoundation" began to show its inability to govern. Before the people had time to find a solution to the bankruptcy proclaimed by the Refoundation, a new group of "saviours" arose in September 2002, in the form of a coup-rebellion. We see today how the attempts to "make the people happy" have failed.
After these experiences of military power (the National Committee Public Safety) and the military-civilian power called Refoundation associated with the "former rebels," which proved to be calamitous, the Ivorian people should be on guard against these types of solutions that do not resolve any problems but rather create many others. As an example: the economic crisis has not been solved. The Ivorian people continue to live in greater and greater difficulties; it is increasingly hard to get health treatment, to educate ones children, just as before the coup; in addition, the country has been plunged into a reactionary civil war which has become the pretext for the increased exploitation of the people. If you think about the incompetence of the existing power, you will always find some corrupt supporters to answer that it is because of the war that the government cannot solve any of the problems; a war that has already created many large fortunes whose ostentatious signs are clear to everyone.
The history of the Ivory Coast is repeating itself since September 2009 has many similarities with September 1999. The risk of seizure of power is the same. The same causes produce the same effects; it is not impossible that new peddlers of illusions will try to deceive to the people again. It is important to warn the people against the putchist tendencies from all sides showing that the actions of these latter are no different from those of their predecessors, with the following goal: overtake the people to prevent them from properly resolving their problems by the revolution.
The Ivorian people are in no way disarmed faced with the current situation; on the contrary. Universal history teaches that the people can exercise their sovereignty in one of the following two ways:
1) To launch an insurrection against the institutions that have become illegal and illegitimate, but that use of reactionary violence to hold on to power; this insurrection lets the people tear down the obsolete institutions and establish new institutions reflecting their will; besides resolving many other important problems, the insurrection creates the conditions for sovereign elections.
2) To exercise political pressure on the existing institutions (Presidency, Government, CEI [Independent Electoral Commission – translator’s note) to hold sovereign elections in which the people express themselves without being hindered by reactionary violence or the manipulation of the institutions. Today, this pressure is taking place; the operation of identification [for electoral rolls – translator’s note] has been closed since the end of June 2009 against the will of those who demanded that this process not come to an end; the fight is now to get a definitive electoral list that does not exclude any citizen of the Ivory Coast, obtaining identity cards and voter cards for all Ivoirians, the organization of general elections without any laws and states of exception prohibiting public demonstrations.
The true solution to the current problems can only be found by a conscious people, relying on their own committees of struggle forcing the holders of power to organize sovereign elections, or otherwise, rising up against the institutions which have become illegal and illegitimate and replacing them with new institutions (a Provisional Revolutionary Government, a new constitution as a base for any elections that allow the people to express themselves).

Down with the coup of the Bongo clan supported by French imperialism

Down with the coup of the Bongo clan supported by French imperialism

Solidarity with the people of Gabon

The Bongo clan, which took control of the country and ruled for 42 years, is once again imposing itself on the Gabonese people. This has been decided by the members of the clan, the military hierarchy, the business owners, not to forget Total, Bolloré, Rougier, Eramet, Bouygues as well as Veolia, BNP, Credit Lyonnais and Axa. In total, these are some of the 150 French companies that control the key sectors of oil, wood, trade, etc.
The elections were marred by many irregularities. Ali Bongo had the financial means and the State apparatus to "wage a campaign". The three days before the announcement of the results served to settle differences within the clan, to allocate juicy posts and to prepare themselves to deal with the demonstrations that would take place proclamation in case Ali Bongo was proclaimed the winner, so great is the anger against this regime and so deep is the desire for change. The fact that most opponents who campaigned did not represent a real rupture does not at all change this desire.
If the demonstrators attacked "French interests", it is because nothing can be decided without the endorsement of the French economic and political leaders.
Several hundred French soldiers equipped with air and land transport have been deployed to defend the right to loot and to protect the regime of Ali Bongo. In 1990, it was the French military that suppressed in blood the revolt of the Gabonese youth, who believed that the time had come for more democracy. French troops are ready to shoot, as they did in November 2004 in Abidjan.
We join with the protests and denunciations that have taken place in France against these rigged elections intended to maintain in power the Bongo clan, the pillar of "French Africa". We denounce the cynicism of the Sarkozy government which claimed to be “neutral" but which, through the statements of Kouchner and Joyandet, gives the political and military support of French imperialism to this coup.
We denounce Bolloré, Bouygues, Total and company, which want to continue to enrich themselves on the backs of the Gabonese people, as well as the peoples of the other French neo-colonies.
We express our solidarity with the Gabonese people, the youth, the workers of the towns and countryside, who are standing up against arbitrariness and reaction.
We call for broadening the denunciation in France and internationally of this coup, supported by French imperialism.

A provocation against the peoples of the world: NObama, NObel, NOway!

English – Articles / Skrevet av Redaksjonen

Friday, October 9 2009 23:17

Scandal and provocation. Illustration credits: Carlos LatuffBy awarding the Nobel Prize to the Supreme Allied Commander of the bloody occupation army in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Norwegian Nobel committee yet again has contributed to the denigration of this medal.
Giving this year's peace prize to President Barack Obama made a whole world speechless, even the Americans shake their heads. The President himself agrees that he feels unworthy, but that has not prevented him from accepting.

Even the most enthusiastic USA-supporters, who have no objection whatsoever on the United States' "war on terror", ask what Obama indeed has done to promote peace. After only nine months in office, there has been much visionary rhetoric, but little action apart from the modification of the missile shield plans in Europe as well as airy wishful thinking about a world without nuclear weapons. Drive and forcefulness will, by contrast, be very obvious when the president shortly signs the order to send an additional 40,000 occupation troops to Afghanistan, as required by his military commander Stanley McChrystal. When Barack Obama ceremoniously receives the award in the heavily guarded city of Oslo, the United States consequently will have 113 000 solidiers on Afghan soil on assignment from the US president. In addition to these come 35 000 soldiers from other states, including Norway. Everything is set for a bizarre performance in Oslo City Hall.
Obama is in fact continuing the occupation politics of his predecessor Bush. Any President of the United States is under the thumb of the monopolies and the military-industrial complex. Giving an American President a peace prize is like spitting every single Iraqi, every Palestinian and every single Afghan in the face. No, it is even worse. It is as though the Nobel committee has engraved their death message on every bullet intended to penetrate the head or chest of any Afghan child, woman or man, who might come within firing range of the imperialists.

A less tail-wagging USA-poodle than the parliamentary Norwegian Nobel committee would at least have awaited what Obama actually might have achieved when his period expires in 2012. But in its eagerness to abuse the will of Nobel in order to underpin American foreign policy, this clique of cleared MPs have no inhibitions. Among the scandals on its record we could mention when the committee handed the prize to mass murderer Henry Kissinger in 1973, while the bombs still were falling over Viet Nam – only weeks after the same Kissinger had orchestrated the fascist putsch in Chile, or when the killer of Palestinians and terrorist Menachem Begin was awarded the prize in 1978. […]

[The Swedish industrialist] Alfred Nobel wanted the Parliament in Norway – which at the time was a young and progressive democracy preparing to liberate itself from union with Sweden – to handle the awardment of the peace prize, because he considered that this would mean less danger of political corruption. At the time of his death, in 1896, he probably was right in thinking so. But since then, Norway has grown to become a greedy imperialist power willing to bargain with and jeopardize its own sovereignty as well as that of other nations, a warmongering state and the world's largest exporter of arms, measured by population. Today, Mr. Nobel would probably rather have chosen for example the Faroe Islands or Åland, with the same justification. If the prize shall avoid complete defaming, it from now on ought to be handed out in Torshavn or Mariehamn.
Barack Obama is an intelligent man who perceives the way of thinking of his Norwegian bootlickers. As he put it in his first press statement: «I do not view it (the Peace Prize) as a recognition of my own accomplishments but rather an affirmation of American leadership».
Our remark would be: You've got it right, Mr. President. In the least as far as the Norwegian bourgeois class is concerned.
But significant portions of the Norwegian people are prepared to defy barbed wires and police repression as well as US leadership and «supremacy» when you arrive in Oslo on 10 December.
